The MV Karwela was used until 2002 by Comino Marina Ltd, designed to carry 863 passengers. It was scuttled in August 2006, off the coast of Xatt L-Ahmar to form an artificial reef. The wreck is approximately 50.31 metres long and sits on a sandy bottom, 80 metres from the entry point.

The wreck stands upright on a sandy bottom, with three decks to explore, including a sun deck. The captain’s cabin is around 31 m, the stern of the Karwela sits at its deepest point of 40 m. Entry and exit points are many, although the lower deck is only lit by portholes.
